After 12 years of heavy right-wing repression, something this year changed in India. And in true Gen-Z fashion, it all started with a joke.
21 students who had committed suicide. A chief justice who likened young people to cockroaches. A single tweet. All of that gave rise to a movement replete with memes and shitposts that successfully and unexpectedly forced the resignation of a cabinet minister.
With intimate, guaranteed access to the people at the center of the movement, footage from Day 1 and ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, we have the opportunity to create something big: a historical document of a young people’s freedom movement, and a film that brings the conversation about what Gen-Z India wants to screens in India and abroad.
